She's gone

Visitors to our website and blog will be more than aware that we have had an affair over the last number of years.

True there should only be one boat in any Club's life, we have been unfaithful, today we lost one.

Asgard II was lost off France this morning, crew and trainees are all safe.

When she berthed in Howth she was always visible from the beach, when she sailed by the island she was a sight to behold and memorably stopped people in their tracks during swims and assessments. She was part of the landscape around here and, like her namesake and predecessor, was firmly embedded in our local culture and history.

Always sorry to hear of the loss of any boat, particularly sail. She'll be missed around here.

"Minister for Defence Willie O'Dea would like to compliment the crew of the Asgard and the French for their co-operation in ensuring that all on board were brought to safety."
