Beach Lifeguard Dublin

Summer may seen like a long time away now but its not long before we kick off registration for the 2016 beach lifeguard programme.

If you are 16 or older you can pre-register on the join tab above (note on the registration if you are an existing swimmer or alumni.

We'll have a session in the next couple of weeks to give you more information on working as a lifeguard volunteering and working abroad.

For everybody else hope you enjoyed birthday night and all the goodies that were there.

Happy birthday......well done and thanks

It's our birthday!

It's that time if year again, way too much sugar and a relaxing night in the pool.

There's so many things to celebrate but the biggest thing today is to say thanks to the volunteers who turn up week after week to make sthoee what it is. Thanks for everything you do.

and this weekend , unplanned we're awarding a staggering 99 rookie certificates.

Words fail me , well done everyone.

Bank holiday

No bank holiday swim but were back the week after for normal swim

For those of you that are having their first term with us November is special. A couple of things happen, probably most important is sthoee birthday, this will be over a few nights again this year.

Classes also start focusing on assessments, your teacher will work with you on this. And lastly, most important you will focus on first aid , why?

Blood night is coming and this year it's very different, historically its been about vampire and zombie attacks, this year it's going to be very,very different.... more soon

Making Sundays easy .....

We're fully back in the swing of things on Sundays, heres a little housekeeping to help make Sundays flow better for everyone!

please remember

we value your time and will not allow latecomers interrupt classes

Pick up is no later than 15 minutes after class end time

630 start , pool 720 pick up by 830

720 start , pool 805 pick up by 9.15

late swim pick up by 9.40

no swims on bank holidays

our pick-up and drop off is inside at DCU reception
parents are responsible for supervision if pick up or drop off is anywhere else

we are happy for first hour swimmer to stay poolside for pick up after a later swim if there is a sibling in the later class

September went quickly …… we’re back to a full calendar in October.

Dryside lifesaving kicks off on Sunday so remember to come on time

from this Sunday

Swim 1 - 6.30 kick off finish 8.15 pick up by 8.30
Swim 2 - 7.20 kick off pick up by 9.15
Swim 3 – late swim pick up by 9.40

- late arrivals will be asked to sit out a class
- swimmers must be able to clear the changing room 15 minutes after a swim

please remember we start / finish at the reception in DCU - collect inside rather than on the road.

Parents - if there is a change to our plans we update the blog /email first, .., if the information is not there it’s probably not accurate .......
......the rule of thumb is that that if a statement begins with “apparently”, ”I heard”, “someone told someone”, “I think”/ thought”, “Fred’s mother said that …..” .......it’s generally not true - check it online

New Starters Sunday - Induction Night this Sunday

Induction night kicks off this Sunday from six thirty, new lifesavers from 8 up are welcome to come down and meet the team, see the kit, and talk joining with us

If you or pal is interested in joining make sure we're expecting you - to register simply select the join tab above or click here or on the picture......

What do you need ?
A parent or adult guardian for the induction
Swimmers will need swim gear, a hat and a sense of humour, swimmers must be able to swim two full lengths without stopping

What to expect?
Parents/Guardians - you'll get a tour , meet the volunteers, hear how it all works, you'll also get to ask any questions
Swimmers - get a feel for the place and the people , get wet

The season change

The training evenings look a lot more like autumn try than summer. Swim and paddle for the group this week while we continued the attack on storage.

New floor is in, and the space is amazing with better racking and stacking. The job is about 75% done now, the heavy lifting is done, we just have to make it pretty and repeatable.

Thanks to everyone who helped clean the beach, small jobs make a big difference

And dinner was served, a whole lot of people had a jellyfish supper and can boast whistles on their suit

We're on the beach Sunday at 6, on a full tide.

It's whistle swim Sunday, there'll be challenges
.. and if it all goes well you'll have a whistle for your wetsuit.

But what are the 2015 challenges?

Lifeguard Summer in Dublin

Nobody told us we would have east coast surf in July.

Despite a rather autumnal feel all 5 new boards got wet along the with SUP, pboards and ski. A beautiful colour display against a solid grey backdrop.

With all the rain best to stay out of the water for a couple of days. We'll have a break over the bank holiday so no bank holoday Sunday training session.

So here's the treat we promised you. ......... Keep your eyes peeled and you'll see more than a few familiar faces.

Big shout out to all the crew abroad at the moment. Hope summer weather is being kinder to you all.

Swim time Sunday . 630

Beach 6:30 Sunday on an evening tide

Beach info to make you look like a pro.....

park smart - be considerate, leave your car at the harbour,

park crazy - keep emergency access / public slipway clear

wrapped - it is really hard to regulate body temperature in a wetsuit on land - if a swimmer is dropped & collected in a wetsuit ..... pack towel/sweat/hat (in case they get cold), water/tshirt
(in case they get hot) and footwear suitable for the street, regardless be really careful, remember most seasons we have a swim or two where we stay dry; might be for water quality, jellyfish, pizza

we go - when everyone is changed & gear is "racked 'n packed" , be on time or early for pick ups,

know the lingo #1
a. the soft ones are 'torps', the hard ones are 'cans'
b. de-sand; sand is very abrasive and the enemy of good gear so we dont pack sand with kit, we 'de-sand' it

June bank holiday

We there!

Hitting June puts summer in focus

Make sure to keep an eye on the blog for summer times as hours will change during the month as exams and summer travel starts impacting. You. An also subscribe to get email updates over here ->>

Open water will kick off twice , thee will be June kit sessions to get everything set up. And then the full swims in July.

Bon voyage to all crew travelling and welcome home to Dónal.

We won't have a full gathering again until September but might have a few practice BBQ between now and then.

Assessments will continue to happen throughout June. Make sure to keep in contact with your trainer.

Finally its gear time , seven new mannekins went into service this weekend with some great naming. Bombasticbaby has joined the ranks of Bambi, donner and blitzen.

New ski arrive this week, feel a board session coming on ......

Bank holiday

So we thought this would be a good day for a beach Swim.

Well we are on the beach but it is absolutely terrible. The weather is about a hostile as you could imagine on Claremont.

No bank holiday swim in the pool but we will be back to usual next week
