Sthoee birthday and no swim 5th

Hey all,

It's sthoee birthday, we celebrate our anniversary, lots of the crew are out west surfing to mark the occasion.

Thanks to all the volunteers that make sthoee happen. It continues to be a magical journey.

We're away from the pool Sunday 5th for midterm, the crew need to get back from Donegal.

We'll post some pictures from the surf!

Important notice TONIGHT

Hey everyone just to let you know we've been advised that DCU may be closing down the Ballymun entrance to DCU at 8pm this evening due to the risk of falling trees.

They are saying the barrier from the Collins avenue entrance will be open after this so you will still be able to access the pool

......and it would be remiss not to mention crew member Ciarán Durnin who is getting married this evening in Florida.

He's got the sunshine we've got the hurricane.....

All our love and best wishes to Ciarán and Natasha

Just a quick note from the pool

We're settling down and making some tweaks

We're operating a waiting list for swimmers wishing to join us. Register on the join section on the blog. Give us as much info as you can as slots can be at any level

If you are looking to move classes or hours we're on it, we need to find suitable , age appropriate spaces so you need to bear with us.

If you have swimmers over two sessions we are happy for a swimmer to wait ON THE POOL BANK ONLY to make pick up easier. We cannot take responsibility for swimmers after they leave the pool. We regret that swimmers may not wait in the foyer or reception area, nor may their friends wait there.

A gentle reminder that DCU house rules of no electronic devices on the bank will be strictly enforced! Yes, seriously, adults too!!

Pick ups are no later than 15 mins after a swim ends, leaving it longer puts us under pressure to clean changing rooms and turnover teachers. Remember if a swimmer takes longer than ten minutes to dress and clear the changing rooms they are too young for us )

Our rookies have started CPR training and rescue, on seniors are working on fitness after the summer, beach Lifeguard training has started for the new season...... Things are getting busy.

Induction night this Sunday

This Sunday is induction night when we welcome new swimmers down for the first time .

Existing swimmers, no dry work and if you have not registered remember that priority this Sunday is our noobies (you've had the last 51 weeks!)

Back to pool and new starts!

Hi all

Just a reminder that we're back to the pool tomorrow Sunday 10th for existing swimmers

We've no dry work for the month of September so swims only

First hour swimmers registration from 7oclock

Second hour from 7.45

New starts can register online , just complete the join form on our blog. You will be invited for induction and our swim test in a fortnight.

Sthoee Open Water 2017

Dear swimmers,

We are delighted to announce details of our Open Water programme for this season. To make it easier for people taking holidays, to still achieve an award, we have decided to offer 2 intensive courses. These courses will involve three sessions: one midweek evening; and two weekend days either side of this. Full attendance at one of these courses could lead to an open water certificate, which is excellent preparation for anyone considering doing a Beach Lifeguard award in the future. Those who would like to attend two courses, are obviously more than welcome and would work on mastering different skills in the second week. The following are the details of the swim times and dates (based on the tide) for each course:

New to Open Water?

Claremont Beach is where we base ourselves in the summer. This beach is located in Howth, Co. Dublin. It is behind the Dart station at the beginning of the West Pier. Walk down the lane with the height restriction barrier, to the left of the Scout Den. Bring a wetsuit if you have one, or borrow one off a friend. Alternatively, we have got some spares available on location.

Remember:

You must have

a brightly coloured swim hat,
footwear to wear in the water,
and warm clothes to change into afterwards

Nb: If your will not be at open water, be sure to be back at the pool for September as we don’t hold places!

Beach training

Beach trainers from around Ireland and the UK gathered in DCU for a technical update this week.

We've a brand new beach lifeguard programme if you're interested in doing beach lifeguard in Dublin this summer make sure you have registered online.

There will be no pool swim St Patrick's weekend or Easter. Crew will be kicking off open at patricks weekend by getting the gear and equipment ready for summer.

Spring is here, it's time to start looking at the beach
