When it's safe to go back in the water.........

The team were on the beach today and we are making plans for our return to the pool.

New gear has arrived and we are enthusiastic about our next steps.

It is really important to us that our return is in a safe and phased manner and one of the more important things is that everyone gets accurate  information.

Please do not take information from any source other than us directly, if you hear of return dates or plans from any other source please treat it with suspicion and let us know immediately.

All sthoee events are published here!

Take care

Sthoee lifeguards: Important if you get automatic emails from us.....

Our email supplier is making changes that may mean people who have registered for automatic emails may not get them after July 1st. If you use the emails please make sure to check the blog and for updates.

We are still hamstrung by restrictions but may try get some small (in line with government restrictions) non contact lifesaving sessions on the beach during summer.

We had to pick a hobby that involves grabbing people and blowing in their faces......

Stay safe

Christmas 2020 @sthoee, the year that wasn't...... (and a little competition)

Normally at the end of the year we are winding up assessments, preparing our state of the nation , prepping a sea swim or paddle. Normally.

Just ahead of Christmas ..... every year on sthoee birthday the crew get a small unique gift , it's a long story but it suffices to say it's a great tradition we've been doing it a long time. It didn't happen this year....

So for Christmas we had a brilliant Dublin artist create unique Christmas deccos using Dublin seaweed and gold leaf to mark sthoee 2020, the year that wasn't, for our volunteers. They are awesome and we have a couple to give away to our swimmers.

If you'd like to try get your hands on one send your name and the time you usually swim at by email to by 29/12 , we'll have someone draw names out of a swimming hat ....

We hope this finds you safe and well, we won't be gathering but if you are stay away from crowds and take care.

Might be the year to skip a Christmas day swim, stay safe

Birthday night

We should be just back from our surf trip, we should be gathering the crew for a meet up after celebrating the sthoee birthday with a pool party. This year keeps giving.

Anyways....  this is birthday week, there's not much up. Some of the crew are working on kit for our pool return, it's full of change, we can't share rescue gear, mannekins and physical contact in rescue and resus are out for the moment. It'll all be very different :-)

Anyway we're just marking birthday night, hope everyone is safe and well, we'll add it to the long list of things we need to celebrate when we get back.

A level 3 update

We wish this was better news.

The sthoee return to pool questionnaire is sitting ready to go when we have something approaching white smoke but.... until we have some better news we will keep our powder dry.

We are at level 3  - Under level 3/4/5 we do not have access to the pool for group training. Under level 2/1 we will have severely reduced class numbers, new process around protective measures, cleaning and how classes will operate.

One of the questions on the questionnaire was to ask you all to send in any questions that you have so that we could go through them on a zoom call with everyone, with today's news why wait … send on questions to

Also every year we celebrate a birthday in early November, if you have ideas for how this might be celebrated remotely throw them onto we need something to look forward to

The crew continue to meet remotely every week, we've had some great problem solving for how the future might look . We need to get wet, we need a mix of live and online learning, we need it to be fun, we need everyone motivated, we need to celebrate an engagement and a heap of birthdays, we need to surf.

We miss you

We will be together again

No Lifeguards on many North Dublin beaches

Just a heads up that we were battered overnight

no Lifeguards on Malahide, Donabate,  Portrane, Rush North. There's a hut floating off Portmarmock......

We always recommend staying clear of the sea after heavy rain , may it's a weekend for Netflix

Lots of great pictures, will update this evening. Send on any you have
