Birthday night 08

For the first time we had Tow-B on the big screen - it was strange seeing his smiling face 6 foot tall - staring out over his domain.

As usual, everyone left with a present – this year a pocket facemask.

For members who have not yet qualified or certified to use one we will be running sessions with them over the coming weeks. Personal protection and safety during rescues has long been a focus in Sthoee and it was great that that we were able to give everyone such high quality kit this year.

Birthday night is always special, this year we had birthday greetings sent from as far away as New Zealand!

It is staggering to believe that Sthoee Lifeguards Dublin is seventeen years old. This has been a special year with great successes all round including;

- A new emphasised focus on lifesaving
- Development of the Dublin based pool lifeguard programme
- Multiple Dublin based beach lifeguard courses
- A staggering number of defibrillator installations and training across Ireland.
- The best equipped open water lifesaving programme available.
- The new rescue boat programme

The next 12 months will see some change with an increased focus on training trainers and developing the beach and boat programme.

In the pool we will see an increased focus on dry training and first aid with a greater roll out of defibrillation.

This is an incredible journey and we are so grateful to everyone who makes it happen - go raibh maith agaibh - you know who you are.

10 things you didn’t know about sthoee

#1 Tow-B (originally Toby) was named after a character in an Australian soap opera and first appeared in sthoee at our 5th birthday party. (he was surfing on an icing surfboard across the cake). He became Tow-B when we registered our first rescue boat.
