Every now and then we get a call that puts a smile on our face

A couple of weeks ago we ran one of the sessions we call "the basics", it's a snappy session ending with hands on CPR and AED for the attendees.

We do it free for groups the length and breadth of Ireland, we've run hundreds of them for thousands of people,

So back to the call, two of the people on the session witnessed a collapse, remembered what they learnt, used it, fired the AED and saved a life.

At sthoee we have a standing rule, nobody takes bows, we take successes along with the disappointments.

We have a community session this Saturday morning covering basic life-support and AED.

who's welcome: max 3:  TA, AT, members interested in teaching (sorry no guests )

what can I expect ?
short presentation, lots of hands on work
to assist with preparation, set-up, presentation, do demos and pack up.
these sessions are down and dirty and can take place in community centres, team dressing rooms, on beaches  - you never know.
session is short 11-1.30,  just enough time for abc's

anything else
sthoee does not charge for community sessions  - we request that a donation is made to charity. our preferred charities are RNLI and UNICEF.
dress for comfort not style.  sthoee top if you have one, if not navy/dark polo if you can , no issue if not.

No pool swim this Sunday

Lifeguards from the local authorities started their summer run this week. AED are now a feature the length and breadth of the Dublin coastline. This is a great step forward given the economically challenging times

We will ne giving information on beaches thoughout the summer and filling you in on some of the more quirky lifeguard stories around.

People have been asking about rip currents, what is a rip current? What to do if you are caught in a rip current? and can a rup current be useful to a lifeguard?

This is about the best explanation that we have ever seen - along with great video, commentary and graphics.

In 1821 we had our own Royal visitor in Dublin

Howth is well known for the Asgard and having a rich history but did you know right beside where we swim another Royal visitor left his Mark.

The Harbour was a new feature in the area when in August 1821 In 1821 King George IV arrived in Ireland at Howth.

To mark the event (literly) his first foot prints were carved into the stone of the harbour and there they ramain to this day. They are at the end of the West Pier (our Pier!)

When you are swimming ask and we will take a trip there. You will have to do the math but I think take akes him QE2's Geat Great Great Grandfather

Mayday bank holiday, no swim, have a great weekend

Lifeguards use radios on a regular basis. Sthoee keeps two sets , marine band VHF and digital CB. Marine VHF are a seriously useful piece of equipment on the beach as they tie us into the rescue services when we need to.
